Learngears proudly announced that Mac OS X version for our Educational Augmented Reality software is currently in development. We can loosely promise that Mac OS X version will be arrived in Fall 2011. Our research and development head aim to fully support both Lion and Snow Leopard versions.

Today we had a wonderful chance to meet and greet with Benesse’s representatives from Japan. Benesse is one of the biggest education company in Japan and they were invited by our government representatives, the Institution for the Promotion of Science and Technology. Benesse developed total solutions for kids ranging from kindergartens to high-schools and their main objectives today was to introduce themselves and look for the way to expand their business in Thailand. Their presentations were very impressive and full of interesting products. What we liked most was “The Miracle Shot”, microscopic compact cameras designed for primary school children and the other one is “Kid’s microscope” – watch it yourself in the video.

People threw out a lot of magnificent ideas over the year, and with the ever growing web applications, next year’s development speed will be overwhelming.

Crudbasher at Education Stormfront saw a great vision with Augmented Reality in Education. This time we’ve brought this great article for you.
One of the big limitations currently to augmented reality apps is you need to have some kind of code or target for the app to recognize. With recent advances in computer vision this is changing. Now your AR device can recognize actual objects in the world.
The applications for Education will be huge. Just point your phone at something and it will show you information about it. Being able to merge information with the real world is a tipping point for AR technology. Now they just need to get a decent glasses mounted display system and we are in business.

Kathy Kahn from west fair online posted another piece of education technology journal pointing out the extinction of blackboard.
“The wrenching screech of chalk across the blackboard may become a thing of the past for 21st century students as schools increasingly move toward technology-based teaching.”
She went into deep details of “Smart Board”, back to its history in 1990s. This interactive whiteboard from Canadian company “Smart Technologies” are at least used by 1,000 schools in the United States. Then the article talked about apple’s magical iPad in education.
